Big finishing week for kids in spring session! These clay weaving animals were made by the Wednesday afterschool cohort in 3 sessions.
Some kids just really get some materials making it imperative that they’re expose to many mediums for expression. This chalk pastel landscape was made by A., age 9.
Sock puppets for the win on last Tuesday STUDIO STITCH of spring session.
Kids love learning optical illusion tricks and especially ways to make something look 3D. Today in AFTERSCHOOL ART ACTIVITY kids used gouache to make the color wheel and tints. They used charcoal smudge for a shadow line and paint pen for the highlights of their “water puddles”. 🎨
Artists made fish stuffies with Ms.Marian! 🐟🐠They looked at different kinds of fish and noticed two main fish shapes - hotdog style (long and narrow) or hamburger style (short and more round).
After decorating both sides of their fish, they sewed them together, added stuffing and finalized their fish by adding fins and tails!
To complete the spring session, adults in OPEN STUDIO drew blind contours of each other jotting down something they appreciated about each member of the group. Then, they drew themselves in the same manner and took a moment to appreciate their own creative process commitment and what they’ve gotten out of their weekly art time.
Collage piece made by Sharon in OPEN STUDIO. She got inspired by one of the warm-up exercises and committed to playing with possibilities of color palette, composition, and shapes!
Animal paintings made entirely with @kwikstixpaint 🎨 Kids focused on texture and blending. It’s so worth buying the larger color sets!!
These cleverly crafted characters were made by the Wednesday afterschool group in three sessions. First they made the airdry clay frame with @das_fila making holes with a straw. Then they painted and attached their pieces with wire. Finally they wove the center. 🐈 🐶 🐢 🐊
2 stuffed characters and a paper one!
Kids in ADVANCED AFTERSCHOOL ART have learned new ways to create landscapes using their plein air drawings. One week they looked for shapes of dark and focused primarily in geometric forms and the next week they drew with a white pencil on dark paper looking for lights and recording the layered organic forms. They applied the Japanese concept of Notan (the harmony of lights and darks) that they practiced with still-life to landscapes.
