You heard it straight from Amy herself: “It’s about to go down.”

American Sublime is so much more than an exhibition—it’s a homecoming and a celebration of civic pride. Sherald, a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art and former student of the renowned Grace Hartigan, worked in Baltimore during her formative years. Through approximately 40 larger-than-life paintings, this exhibition follows Sherald’s evolution, from rarely seen early works to her iconic portrayals of Black Americans in everyday life.

American Sublime opens Sunday, November 2, with an afternoon of free activities during Community Day.
